Commencement for Inaugural Class of 2006: Sunday, May 21, 2006

Ceremony

The inaugural Commencement ceremony includes presentation of candidates for graduation by degree, conferring of degrees by the President and the Commencement address. No honorary degrees will be presented.

Commencement Ceremony on the Olin Great Lawn
The ceremony begins at 2:00 p.m. (sharp) on the Olin College Great Lawn. Each graduate will be called to the stage by name to receive his/her degree. A photographer and videographer will be recording the event. Information on how to obtain these photographs and videos will available through the Communication Office following Commencement. The Commencement will be simulcast in the Olin College auditorium.


Entrance to the Commencement tent will be staggered as follows:

1:15 p.m. – Class of 2006 families

1:30 p.m. – Other invited guests

1:45 p.m. – Classes of 2007, 2008 and 2009

Lawrence W. Milas
Chairman of the Board and President of the F.W. Olin Foundation


Mr. Milas has been a Director of the F. W. Olin Foundation, Inc. since 1974 and has served as President since 1983. During his tenure, 42 building grants have been made by the Foundation totaling more than $200 million. In 1993 Mr. Milas proposed the establishment of Olin College to the Foundation Board, and he has led the development effort since the Board approved the concept in 1997. He was a partner in the former New York City law firm of Baer Marks & Upham, where he specialized in tax and trusts and estate law. Currently, he is Of Counsel to Brown, Raysman, Millstein, Felder & Steiner.

Mr. Milas has received honorary degrees from Washington and Jefferson College, Whitman College, Roanoke College and the F. W. Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College. He is a recipient of the Babson Medal from Babson and served several terms on the college’s Board of Trustees. A 1958 graduate of Babson College (with distinction), he received his L.L.B. degree from Columbia University in 1963.

Pre-Ceremony Activities
Continental breakfast is available in the Dining Hall from 8:00-10:00 a.m. and brunch will be served from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.


Graduates
are asked to report to the Robing Rooms in the Academic Center between noon and 1:00 p.m.

Faculty and distinguished guests
are asked to report to the Robing Rooms in the Academic Center between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m.

Specific rooms will be designated for graduates, faculty and guests to put on their robes. These rooms will have tables and mirrors.

The Senior Class Photograph will be taken at 1:10 p.m. (sharp). All graduates meet at the wooden waterfall (lower level of Campus Center), with robes, caps and hoods on for senior class photograph.


Receptions

President's Reception (Saturday, May 20)
All graduating seniors and their immediate families are invited to the President's Reception on Saturday, May 20, 2006 from 4-6:00 p.m. Olin College staff, faculty and their spouses are also invited to attend the reception.

Post-Ceremony Reception
All graduates and their families, Olin students, faculty, staff and guests are invited to a closing reception in the Olin Oval (Dining Hall is the rain location) to honor the class of 2006. This reception will immediately follow the Commencement Ceremony. Beverages and light snacks will be served.
